Edge banding in the use of a few key points

Edge-sealing hot melt adhesive is a kind of adhesive specially used for edge-sealing of man-made sheet. It is a solvent-free thermoplastic adhesive. Hot melt adhesive is heated to a certain temperature, that is, from solid to molten state, when coated to the artificial board substrate or edge material surface, cooling into a solid state, the edge material and the substrate bonded together.

1, the edge of hot melt adhesive base material       

 

£¨1£©EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer resin) base material hot melt adhesive, this kind of hot melt adhesive can be divided into two types of fillers and non-fillers. Using EVA as base material is an ordinary production technology of hot melt adhesive for edge sealing, its main limitation is poor heat resistance. The ambient temperature of panel furniture sealed with Eva hot melt adhesive should not be higher than 120 ¡ã C;

 

£¨2£©Pol YAMIDE (polyamide) based hot melt adhesive, this kind of hot melt adhesive has good heat resistance and fast curing characteristics, the main disadvantage is expensive.

 

£¨3£©HMPU (polyurethane) base material hot melt adhesive, it is a kind of good performance hot melt adhesive, is the guarantee of high-quality plate edge sealing. It is expensive and requires special use.    

 

 

2, edge sealing hot melt adhesive viscosity           

 

The viscosity of hot melt adhesive can not directly reflect the performance of adhesive. In general, the higher the viscosity of hot melt adhesive, the better its initial adhesion, but the worse the coating performance. Low viscosity hot melt adhesive coating amount is small, wettability is better. Some low-viscosity hot-melt adhesives, which cure quickly, may also have high initial adhesion. For poor quality particleboard, the edge of the need to choose a higher viscosity hot melt adhesive, this is because the high-viscosity hot melt adhesive poor liquidity, not as easy as the low-viscosity hot melt adhesive into the particle board edge of the pores, thus the hot melt adhesive can be fully coated on the edge of the plate.

 

3,Edge sealing hot melt adhesive density                  

 

The density of hot melt adhesive is 0.95-1.6 g/cm3, its density depends on the number of fillers (the more fillers, the greater the density) . As the plate edge sealing requirements to reach a certain amount of adhesive area, so the density of non-filler hot melt adhesive per unit length less than the filler hot melt adhesive. And because the non-filler hot melt adhesive bonding performance is good, to achieve the same edge sealing effect, the use of non-filler hot melt adhesive less than the filler hot melt adhesive is possible. In order to reduce the amount of coating, edge sealing machine must have a good coating system.

 

4,The softening point and service temperature of hot melt adhesive                 

 

The softening point is the index of heat resistance of hot melt adhesive for edge sealing. The higher the softening point is, the more difficult the hot melt adhesive for edge sealing is to melt. At the same time, the softening point is also an important aspect to measure the heat resistance of panel furniture. In Europe, for the plate edge of the heat resistance has been a set of testing methods, the heat resistance of panel furniture has also proposed standards. France, Germany, Italy and other countries have not large-scale production of low softening point hot melt adhesive edge, but the domestic manufacturers (including Taiwanese manufacturers) still produce and supply to the domestic market, the reason is that domestic furniture manufacturers and consumers do not pay enough attention to the heat resistance of panel furniture, especially kitchen furniture. The softening point of Eva hot melt adhesive is generally between 90 ¡ã C and 135 ¡ã C.

 

The use of hot-melt adhesive temperature refers to the edge of the machine cots on the adhesive temperature, only at this temperature, hot-melt adhesive to achieve good adhesive strength. In some edging machine display temperature and the actual temperature has a considerable error, so to regularly check the temperature of the machine. If the temperature of edge sealing machine is too high, the adhesive will appear carbonization and smoke, and if it is too low, the adhesive strength will decrease.

 

5,The opening time of hot melt adhesive and the feeding speed of edge sealer             

 

The opening time of hot melt adhesive refers to a period of time between the beginning of coating and pressing the edge band to the substrate. The feeding speed and opening time of edge sealer are closely related, and both are very important in the choice and use of hot melt adhesive. Fast feeding edge sealing machine must choose the open time short hot melt adhesive, on the contrary, choose the open time long hot melt adhesive.

 

For most manual edge banding machines, due to manual operation, it requires the use of hot melt adhesive open time long enough to facilitate the bending parts edge banding. Hot melt adhesive is generally coated on the edge band, in order to ensure edge sealing quality, homemade manual edge sealing machine also has a double-sided coating method. The temperature of the rubber pot of the manual edge sealer is generally controlled below 180 ¡ã C (the German Brandt manual edge sealer can be heated to 200 ¡ã C or above) , so the hot melt adhesive with the temperature below 180 ¡ã C should be used. If a thin PVC edge strip of less than 0.2 mm thickness is sealed on a manual edge sealer, the use temperature of the hot melt adhesive must be about 120 ¡ãC.
