The relationship between edge banding and hot-melt adhesive

Hot-melt adhesives are increasingly widely used in furniture edge banding, but there are many difficulties encountered during use. The following is a specific analysis of common problems in the bonding of edge banding hot-melt adhesives by Zhubang Adhesives:

I. Edge banding falling off: Check whether the operation is correct, and operate in accordance with the machine operation requirements and the correct parameters of hot-melt adhesives; Check whether the edge banding machine is normal; Check whether the back coating of the edge banding tape is normal. If it is veneer edge banding, check whether it is a resinous tree species or whether the wettability of the back non-woven fabric is qualified; Check whether the type of hot-melt adhesive is appropriate; Check whether there is a problem with the quality of the hot-melt adhesive.

II. Insufficient edge banding strength: Check whether the type of hot-melt adhesive used is appropriate; Check whether the boards are too loose or unqualified, or whether the boards have been stacked for too long, resulting in too much dust at the ports; Check whether the edge banding is contaminated; Check whether the back coating of the edge banding is uniform; The temperature of the hot-melt adhesive is unqualified, the pressure of the edge banding machine is insufficient, and the operation pressure of the manual edge banding machine is controlled manually, so the above problems are particularly easy to occur; The temperature of the operating environment is too low.

III. Thick glue lines: The type is incorrect, such as using fast-drying glue on a slow-speed machine. The hot-melt adhesive starts to solidify before bonding, resulting in loose pressing; The processing accuracy of the board is insufficient, the sawing is poor, and the incision is not straight enough; The edge banding tape is deformed, not horizontal enough or arc-shaped; The pressure wheel of the edge banding machine is worn, and the pressure is uneven up and down, which will lead to thick glue lines on one side; The pressure of the edge banding machine is insufficient to press tightly, requiring a pressure of 3-5kg/cm²; The amount of glue applied is too large, causing the glue to overflow.

IV. Wire drawing contaminating the board: The quality of the hot-melt adhesive is poor; The type is improperly selected, such as using slow-drying glue on a high-speed machine, resulting in too long open time of the hot-melt adhesive and slow drying of the glue; The temperature of the hot-melt adhesive is too high, or the speed of the edge banding machine is too fast; The amount of glue applied is too large; The quality of the glue application roller is poor, unable to apply glue evenly or adjust properly.

V. Edge banding falling off a few days after spray painting: The edge banding does not achieve high bonding strength. Check whether the operation is reasonable or whether the quality of the hot-melt adhesive is qualified; For the falling off of painted veneer edge banding, check whether the back of the veneer has too much oil or whether the wettability of the back non-woven fabric (paper) is qualified; For the falling off of painted veneer edge banding, check whether the veneer has too large pores and whether the solvent of the paint penetrates into the glue to damage the glue film; The quality of the hot-melt adhesive does not meet the requirements, and low-temperature glue is not suitable for such processes; Poor handling during edge banding leads to too thick glue lines, resulting in poor sealing, and the solvent is easy to penetrate into the glue film to damage its strength.
